Frequently Asked Questions
How do I place an order? You can place an order in either of three ways:
Back to TopHow do the New Domain Names Work?We will acquire yourname.biz and/or yourname.info (if so ordered) if they are still available and register them for two years in your name. We will then program the Internet Servers to point these new domain names to your existing site. When your customer types in yourname.biz or yourname.info, they will be automatically directed to your existing homepage (yourname.com). The process is entirely transparent to the user. Back to TopWhat is the cost and how do I make payment?Once you place an order, we will determine if yourname.biz or yourname.info is still available or if it is registered to someone else. If available, we will acquire the web address in your name and program the Internet servers to redirect traffic to your existing site. If we are successful, we will then issue your company an invoice for $150 for either the .biz or .info domain ordered and programmed or $250 for both. Upon payment of the invoice, we will supply you the account name and password for your new domain name and the transaction is complete. Ownership of the domain name is yours. Remember, you must renew ownership after two years just like you need to renew your driver's license. If we are unsuccessful, we will supply you a report of who owns the web address you requested and issue your company an invoice of $25 for our search services. Back to TopCan I set up new websites with the .Biz and .Info Domain Names? The .Biz and .Info are top level domains joining the other ICANN approved top level domains of .Com, .Net, .Org, .Gov and .Edu. As top level domains, they can be used in the same ways as their counterparts. Back to TopWhat are Top Level Domains? Who is ICANN?Addresses are used to direct traffic on the Internet gateway. These are called top level domains. Like drawers in a filing cabinet, the top level domains direct you to a particular type of user. .Com was created for communications, but is also used by companies. .Net was created for use by networks. .Org was created for use by non-profit organizations. .Gov was created for use by the Government. .Edu was created for use by educational institutions. As the internet became crowded, ICANN approved the use of two new top level domains: .Biz and .Info. .Biz was created solely for use by business. .Info was created for use by the growing demand for websites dedicated for informational purposes. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the non-profit corporation that was formed to assume responsibility for the IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, domain name system management, and root server system management functions previously performed under U.S. Government contract by IANA and other entities. They are the trustees of the Internet. Back to TopWhy do I need additional Domain Names? What is Available? The Internet is changing and evolving. The .com domain extension has become so crowded, ICANN has created two new domain extensions of .biz and .info. It is expected that most business users will gravitate to the .biz extension as it is dedicated solely for business use. Companies and Organizations that seek to disseminate information will gravitate to the .info extension. In the future, if you wish to communicate with a company you may go to their company.com website. If you wish to do business with a company you may go to their company.biz website. If you are merely seeking information about their product, you may go to their company.info website. So why do you need additional domains? You need to control yourname! After spending thousands of dollars on yourname.com and hundreds of thousands of dollars on advertising, a customer may, without thinking, type in yourname.biz and end up at your competitor's website!! And it would be legal. Back to TopCopyright © 2002 by Sakon™ LLC. All rights reserved.
